Thorpe Marsh power station was a 1 gigawatt coal-fired power station.
The construction began in 1959 and was being built as a prototype for all the large modern power stations in the UK.
It was commissioned between 1963 and 1965. It had two 'generating sets' powered by coal and utilised a gas turbine using a industrial static version of the Rolls Royce Avon aero engine with a capacity of 14.9 MW.
This station was closed in 1994 after the privatisation from the Central Electricity generating board to Nationalpower in 1990. The 45 acre site was then purchased by Able UK in 1995.
Each cooling tower is 340ft tall and 260ft wide.
Do you think they don't want you to get in?
